A Night Time Story

A Night Time Story

A Night Time Story
Luke 2:8, 16-20

The telling of night time stories is as ancient as antiquity itself, with parents today pausing to tell or read a night time story to their child.  The Gospel writer Luke supplies us with the most glorious night time story of all, of how Christ came into the world at night.

God Gives Us Night Stories To Wake Us Up. God wants to wake us up with wonderful news.  To wake up and see Angels lighting up the countryside, hear them saying “Glory to God in the Highest”, and to see the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes laying in a manger.  He is saying to us ‘wake up and let Me lead and guide you’, ‘wake up to see what I am doing all around you’, and ‘wake up to see I am with you in your night season.’

God Speaks To Wherever We May Be
. God speaks to us wherever we are and in whatever circumstances we find ourselves to show His deep affinity for us.  He spoke to the shepherds up were up all night tending to their lambs, just as Mary was up all night tending to her newborn lamb.  The Child who was bound with strips of cloth, was bound to die for us on the Cross.

The Best Night Time Stories Have Happy Endings
. The shepherds returned to the hillside rejoicing and praising God for what they had witnessed.  Mary stored these events in her heart, treasuring what she had heard and seen.  She recognized life has significance, and the most significant thing in life is Christ.
