Genesis 17:1-7

Most people consider a good father to be a provider, a protector and a counselor to his children.  But we as Christians understand God’s intentions for fathers are far more substantial, awe inspiring and integral to His plan of salvation than we suspect.  A great father is a man who greatly loves his children, who are his blessings not burdens.  But in Genesis fathering is described as a ministry, something most men are not often taught.  Abram, whose name means “Exalted Father”, was given the name Abraham by God, meaning “Father of a Multitude of Nations.”  The greatest attribute of this father of many nations was faith.

Men of Faith Are Called To Be Extraordinary Fathers.

God’s desires exceeds those of Christian fathers.  He is not interested in men being ‘run of the mill’ fathers, but to transform their parenting into dynastic fathering.  God turns a home into a household, a household into a dynasty, an unbroken succession of godly generational parenting.

Procreation Is Addi
ng To God’s Creation.

It is God’s desire that the righteous be in authority, that the godly would bear rule.  We can’t have a godly nation if we don’t have godly homes.  Every Christian father is to rule well his household according to the Word of God.  We have children so that godly rule can be pervasive over the earth.  If Christians don’t have children, then the creation will be overrun with ungodliness.

Covenant Fathers Make Everlasting Impacts
.

Fathers may not be able to save the entire world but at least can make sure their own children are saved.  Noah tried, but could not save anyone outside of his own family from God’s judgment.
