Hosea 1:1-8; 2:5-7

If you were asked to write your personal perfect “Love Story”, there would probably be no trials, tragedy or drama. But few if any would buy the book! On the other hand, a romance tragedy is highly relatable, capturing our attention. The story of Hosea is such a personal tale, written to illustrate the similar problem God was having with the rebellious people of Israel, and the lengths He went to redeem and restore them because of love.

The Lord Has Naming Rights. God gave Hosea’s children unusual names to show Israel’s future judgment. But the God who gives each of His children a name also gives them a future, if they only repent and are obedient.

He Has Purchasing Rights. God had Hosea to save his adulterous wife Gomer from slavery, buying her to pay off her debts. God demonstrated that love pays a price, is costly, sacrificial, gracious, forgiving and covers a multitude of sins. Love seeks out and starts over again.

He Has Planning Rights. Just as God has a plan for Gomer, He had a plan for Israel and us. No matter how much of a mess we may be, He can fix us up. No matter how far we have run from Him, we are just one step away from the arms of Jesus.
