Your Child Is Not God

In recent years, the entertainment industry has significantly increased the roll out of super heroes, beings endowed with super-human abilities. The notion of super-human beings goes back to ancient times with Greek mythology and other pagan religions. Children today imagine themselves as having powers in their play. What is dangerous and sinful is when their parents believe their child has God-like attributes. Their child knows and is entitled to everything, and the teachers, store managers, civil authorities and godparents are all wrong. It is God’s will that the child be godly, having moral excellence, honor, virtue and love.

Godly Parenting Stresses Spiritual Development Not Entitlement. Jesus was born in a manger, escaped to Egypt as a refugee, and apprenticed as a carpenter. Even as the Messiah, Son of God, He developed a thirst for righteousness and was driven by compassion, not a sense of entitlement or being self-centered.

Arrogance Puts A Child A Risk. Parental over-indulgence can create all kinds of problems for their child’s development, including hypertension, depression, irritability and irresponsibility. Some respond with social escapism, putting them at risk for eating disorders, nervous breakdowns, sexual promiscuity and gravitation towards others who are also socially disaffected.

The Deification Of Parenthood Is Deadly. When parents do not submit to God’s leadership and counsel, they invite despair, sorrow, hopelessness and pain into the home.
