A Mother’s Day Portrait

A Mother’s Day Portrait

Mother’s Day celebrations show that no one on earth evokes emotions, devotion and gratitude like moms.  When you look at your mother’s photo, you see more than an image—you see a soul that has helped shape your soul.  Unfortunately, not all reports are glowing since we are a broken people living in a broken world.  But God sends light into dark places and brings peace to troubled hearts.  Hannah, Samuel’s mother, was long childless before his birth, and was humiliated by her husband’s second wife who had given birth to sons and daughters.

Hannah Had A Prayerful Heart. Hannah prayed for years for a child.  But while her prayers were well-intentioned, sincere and persistent, they went unanswered because they lacked the one element—God’s intent.  When she prayed in His will for a servant for Him, her prayers were answered.

Hannah Avoided Hokey Pokey Parenting
. Hannah did not renege on her promise to dedicate Samuel to God’s service, giving him to the High Priest Eli as soon as he was weaned.  Her heavy heart of years past changed to a healthy heart understanding the heart of God.  Some parents today put their children in and pull them out of Christian schools and environments, and wonder years later why their children have a weak spiritual life.  If they don’t keep their mooring in God, then their beliefs and allegiance will be to the world.

Mothers See To It Your Sons Received Godly Male Mentoring
. Godly male spiritual formation is critical for a young man.  He acquires affirmation, confidence and competence.  A good mother recognizes her limitations and seeks help in and out the home, especially seeking support in the House of God.
