Psalm 144:1-15

Those who grew up in military families know firsthand the rigors and sacrifices associated with military life.  Military fathers are shaped by their profession, dictating how they think, walk, look and dress.  Many families mourn and honor the loss in military cemeteries of those killed on battlefields.  Even those fathers who never served are honored for their leadership and sacrifices for the home.  However, some children are scarred by the failures of ungodly fathers who failed through infidelity, immorality and worldly pursuits.  King David was sickened by such men, and wrote a psalm of encouragement and instruction for Godly fathering.

We Must Sing The Praises Of Our Children In Their Hearing.

The praises of fathers are especially desired and needed by their children.  The words of the father’s affirmation inspires children with confidence, and helps them order their lives to God’s service.

Praying Favor Over The Lives Of Our Sons & Daughters.

Fathers must intentionally pray over and bless their children so they may obtain God’s favor.  The prayer and actions of Jairus for his ailing daughter moved Christ to heal her with just a word.  David prayed and wrote psalms for the Children of Israel, inspiring all through today’s generations.

Valuing Our Children.

Fathers fight wars, overcome adversity and are willing to die to protect their families. But to what end?  If their children are not what God called them to be, and are self-centered, irresponsible and pleasure seekers, then the inheritance the fathers toiled for is for naught.  Fathers must value their children, which includes training them to be what God intended.
