Luke 7:36-50

Worldwide, the fragrance industry sales are projected to be $41 billion for 2016; investors know the value that a little splash of cologne or perfume can generate.  The valuation of a fragrance goes back to biblical times, and is mentioned as a part of Luke’s narrative. The Pharisee Simon invited Jesus to his home for a meal, and a woman notorious as a prostitute washed Jesus’ feet with her tears and anointed His feet with expensive, fragrant oil.

The Unnamed Woman Valued Jesus Above All Cost Analysis And Valuations. The customary hospitality of that day involved washing the honored guest’s feet, removing the dust of the road.  The woman had no basin of water or towel to perform the hospitality that should have been provided by Simon.  Her desire to serve Christ compelled her to willingly do more than she planned.

The Unnamed Woman Is A Reminder Actions Speak Louder Than Words. Our culture recognizes “talk is cheap”; talk doesn’t feed the hungry, clothe the naked, build buildings or pay bills.  The woman said nothing, but her actions in washing Jesus’ feet spoke volumes.  The Lord Jesus spoke up for her, and her works are memorialized through time in this Gospel account.

Jesus Is Touched By Repentant Sinners. Jesus deems every soul is priceless.  He counted the cost and was willing to die for the sins of the world.  We must count the cost, be repentant and be willing to serve the Savior of the World.
