Luke 1:26-33 HCSB
Most across the nation are preparing for Christmas in some way, to celebrate the season with family and friends. The advent season is not only about celebration but also anticipation. The anticipation of Christ’s birth would signal God’s profound action that would forever change individual lives and world history. The prophecies were tied intimately to angelic ministry, including Gabriel’s prominent visit to Mary. Angels not only delivered the prophecies but explained the prophecies. Angels were prominent in the early Church, intervening in the ministries of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Angelic prophetic ministry involves:
The angel Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, was commissioned to meet the young, meek and virtuous Mary. He not only told her of the prophecy concerning her, but answered her questions to ease her confusion. Angels lend us their presence, and are committed not just to our knowing but also our understanding.
Mary’s responded to Gabriel’s revelations by giving her consent to God’s plans. She decided to fully commit to what was revealed to her for service to His Kingdom. She did not delay and was not indecisive. Indecision is no decision and leads to uncertainty and unnecessary anxiety.
Gabriel directed Mary’s attention to her cousin Elizabeth who was pregnant with John the Baptist. What God was doing in Elizabeth’s life would serve as an encouragement to Mary.
